What is PTE Academic and Why Are Nepali Students Choosing It?

PTE Academic, the Pearson Test of English Academic, is a fully computer-based English proficiency test accepted by thousands of universities and colleges worldwide, including institutions in Australia, the UK, Canada, and New Zealand. It is also accepted by the Australian Department of Home Affairs for visa purposes, making it a highly practical choice for students targeting an Australian student visa.

Unlike IELTS, PTE is graded entirely by artificial intelligence — meaning there is no human examiner bias. The results arrive within 48 hours of your test, which makes PTE the smarter choice if your university application deadline is approaching. The PTE score ranges from 10 to 90, and most universities require a score between 50 and 65. With the right PTE preparation classes in Kathmandu, hitting your target score is very much achievable.

Part 1 covers Speaking and Writing together and runs for 77 to 93 minutes — this is the most critical section for Nepali students. Part 2 is Reading, lasting 32 to 40 minutes, and Part 3 is Listening, which takes 45 to 57 minutes. There is an optional 10-minute break between Reading and Listening.

Your final PTE score report includes an overall score, individual communicative skill scores for Listening, Reading, Speaking, and Writing, and enabling skill scores for grammar, pronunciation, vocabulary, spelling, and written discourse.
